Tryst Art Gallery announces its first exhibit:Memories in Motion:
The art of Michael Van Patten www.michaelvanpatten.com
Do you recall a moment when a subtle scent conjured up images of a moment once forgotten. Have you ever stood in a new space and felt as though you had been there once before? No, not déjà vu! –Memories in Motion–. Tryst Art Gallery introduces its inaugural solo exhibit with the works of Michael Van Patten. Originally from Seattle, WA by way of New York City to now San Francisco, CA; Michael Van Patten has been on the collector’s radar for decades. He is featured in the corporate collections of Ogilvy & Mathers Worldwide as well as private collections nationally and abroad. Something immediate, graphic, and organically familiar beckons the viewer to go beyond their identifications. These are works that explore the unseen rhythms and nature of the body, the cellular memories and harmonies that lie just below the surface. “Whimsical, soothing and colorful, I create these works as a reminder of the natural flow and wisdom inherent in our bodies, not our minds. With an emphasis on nurturing, stillness and quiet repose these works can also serve as a mandala for the viewer to access their own revelatory journey.” -Michael Van Patten-

An exhibition born out of organic proliferation.Michel Blazy is an artist of the uncontrollable.Unstable developments and biological alterations give rise to a changing plastic universe in which time is a leading player.
Michel Blazy works with living matter. He places it at the centre of his artistic output and lets it “do its work”. Evolving arrangements and ephemeral installations enable him to explore the uncontrolled proliferation of micro-organisms whose metamorphoses, transformations and changes of state are all factors necessary to the activation and development of the work – development understood in its most concrete sense.
A builder of random, fragile universes, Michel Blazy likes to manipulate materials, to attempt to control their disappearance and transformation, or on the contrary to be completely dependent on them. The micro events to which the adventure gives rise are crucial to the unfolding journey: instances of intentional or accidental germination, of the desiccation and decline of materials, of microscopic molds and rots, of the deterioration of surfaces, of the degeneration, transmutation or decrepitude of forms – all these febrile energies of living matter are claimed by the artist as operations crucial to the elaboration of the work.
An exhibition by Michel Blazy is experienced over time, by interrelating different moments, and by reading the links between the successive cycles. For the Palais de Tokyo, the artist is offering a project that is constructed step by step, in time and space. A permanent laboratory in which his experiments are installed, the place takes shape slowly, under the constant supervision of the artist. Observation of the upheavals, participation by the senses, transformation of the spaces, each of these elements will be a crucial stage in decoding the whole, like a succession of snapshots of a story with no end: by means of alchemies with an uncertain outcome, the artist gives us an inspired reading of that story.

Hello world!
Connecting consciousness and art is a primary intent with this weblog. The fragmentation of the world into isolated parts is a fundamental dis-ease of our time. The split between human beings and nature, mind and body, spirit and matter has become accepted as the norm. We are surrounded by housing developments and office buildings that effectively store people and automobiles but neglect the human need to nourish the soul. In response to this fragmentation I seek to facilitate sources of healing and renewal. For my own sanity and reflection I’ve created in my own artwork a space where I can physically embody the ideals of harmony, universal flow and interconnectedness. To see these ideals helps to feel them, to feel them is to become them.
It is my hope and intention that this weblog space can serve as another extension of this journey, by sharing and exchanging that which inspires us all we can then perhaps see more of the forest through the trees.
